Published in January 2015 after a year's work from the Education Technology Action Group (ETAG), set up by Ministers from the UK Departments for Education and Business Innovation and Skills. The group was asked to advise on how digital technology might empower teachers and learners by enabling innovation across schools, further education and higher education sectors for the benefit of students, employers and the wider economy.

From 1972 to 1991 the Computers in the Curriculum Project was funded by the Schools Council and subsequently by the Microelectronics Education Programme and others to develop simulation software for the secondary curriculum.
