I'm into outdoor persuits such as camping, walking and canoeing. I'm
also a lover of music of all styles. I'm a District Explorer Scout
Leader. I lead a District Explorer Scout Unit of 45 Scouts aged between
14 and 18, and a team of 6 Leaders. Together we go camping, walking,
canoeing, sailing and many more. At the moment our projects include
building a go-cart, a wall-climbing course, putting together a
pantomime and also producing a movie (using iMovie software) from our
Summer Camp in August 2002. At Christmas 2002 I will be attending the
20th World Scout Jamboree in Thailand as a Unit Leader with the Essex
Contingent. I was appointed as a Jamboree Unit Leader in November 2001
and since then I have been fundraising to go on the trip, as well as
preparing the unit for the trip along with the other 3 Leaders who were
appointed (all of the members of the Jamboree Unit are aged 14-18 and
come from all over Essex and were chosen from their local groups
especially to go to the Jamboree).
I play the electric guitar and have done for about 13 years, having
played in several amateur rock and funk/rock bands. I can also play the
drums and have basic keyboard skills. I play lead guitar in a blues
band at the moment, which is great fun and I would say blues is my
favourite type of music (although I listen to most styles). I'm a
socialable person and enjoy going out with my friends to bars, pubs,
watching films at the cinema, playing pool etc.
I worked at Ultralab as the Ultralab Team Administrator. This meant
that I supported the lab projects in a variety of ways. I was usually
the first voice a person will hear when calling the lab and I also
greeted visitors to the lab. My job included tasks such as making
travel arrangements, putting together phone conferences, organising
lunches for meetings and training sessions, looking after the database
of lab contacts, sending out lab project updates and I was also the
Administrator for the Ultralab Online LearningModules. My job was
mixed and varied which I loved.
All of the research teams kept me on my toes in a variety of ways!
During the last year I had been learning loads about Filemaker Pro
which I used a lot more and also editing videos using iMovie (which I
have done with the APU Summer School and also with my Scouts too).
Prior to working in the lab admin team I worked as an Administrator
with the Notschool.net project and prior to that I worked for an
Insurance company in London. I've worked for Ultralab (on and off)
since June 2000.
Oh and by the way, I was also one of the Ultralab Fire Marshalls too!
I'm also half-way through an Information Systems Degree. I loved
working at Ultralab and I love learning new things.
Andy returned to London to work in insurance, and is sorely missed.
