Alan Seargent's Profile
Alan Seargent
Alan worked for Ultralab on the Talking Heads project. Alan now
manages Talking Heads for NCSL, moving with the project as it graduated
from Ultralab.
Alan says about himself: I have lived in the USA on two occasions for a year each time - once as an 17 year old with a host family outside Los Angeles, going to High School, then in 92/93 with my family on an exchange programme with an Oregon community college, living in Portland. A number of strong links still exist following each of these experiences. I enjoy growing things in our garden - food and flowers - and I'm generally good with my hands, doing practical things with wood, and around the house. I enjoy France, and we have just got ourselves a place in the south, in the foothills of The Pyrenees. Most embarrassing moment at ULTRALAB: Not embarrassing as such, but it caught me by surprise at the time. Now I'm not at all surprised by it. First visit - interview - early arrival - waiting patiently - in comes a friendly bloke looking like he might have just come in from the garden (except there isn't a garden at the Lab), offering me a cup of tea - nice, I thought - wonder who he is and what he does here - later I see same bloke having a chat with someone, who refers to him as Stephen - mmmm...my first experience of the 'culture' of the Lab! Why did you work there? It's an "on the edge" thing for me, being in the middle of lots of new learning (for me and for others) about things that could have a real impact on how things are done in and around the world of education. |
