I started working at Ultralab in May 2000 as an Administrator to the
Talking Heads Project. After this project was completed, I began my
current role as PA to Acting Director Richard Millwood, as well as
providing effective and efficient support services for a range of
activities for Ultralab staff both in Chelmsford and remotely around
the UK.
My PA work involves assisting Richard as much as possible by managing his time/diary
and ensuring he gets to his many engagements around the University, the country and overseas on time and fully prepared.
My support services work involves communication with all our external
contacts for
example: DfES, BBC, Apple Computers, Channel 4, and Government
Ministers. I organise Ultralab's external public events such as BETT the education show
which takes place every January for 4 days at Olympia in London.
I arrange
seminars and similar events in Anglia Ruskin University from start to
completion.
At Ultralab we believe that all staff both academic and non-academic
should be encouraged to innovate and develop their work role, as our core business is action research. Consequently, in my
daily activities I have learnt and continue to learn and use many software packages to communicate with our
distributed staff around the UK. Creating web pages, video conferencing, logistics
and participating in our online community takes a significant proportion
of my time. This can be a challenging and rewarding task. Learning is a big part of my work!
Another side of my job is working with images to produce good
literature to promote Ultralab and its projects. Currently I help with
marketing of the Ultraversity online degree project. I liaise with Anglia Ruskin Marketing
staff to help improve the profile of our organisation.
I liaise with the Faculty of Education, organising our MA programme
- we are currently trying to promote this online distance learning
course.
