Shirley Pickford's Profile Description
A brief CV
I worked in secondary education from 1978 to 1998, initially in special education but later as a Mathematics teacher and ICT Co-ordinator. My first post was with Voluntary Service Overseas in Nigeria and I have worked in both the independent and public sectors.
In 1998 I was seconded as Advisory Teacher to work with ULTRALAB and Intuitive Media on the record-breaking educational Internet project Tesco SchoolNet 2000. As the SchoolNet project came to an end I celebrated with a year representing the project partners at the Millennium Dome in London.
In January 2001 I began working for ULTRALAB as a Senior Facilitator in the Talking Heads online facilitation team. I was involved in researching a large-scale online project for all headteachers in England, using new technologies to reduce isolation and encourage collaborative approaches including the development of resources for the National College for School Leadership programmes for Strategic Leadership in ICT .
After a successful handover of Talking Heads to The National College for School Leadership, I joined the Ultraversity project and currently I tutor undergraduates undertaking work-based honours degrees in Learning, Technology and Research while investigating the potential for a community-based approach to eLearning and its impact on the changing role of university lecturers.
