Tim Ellis's Profile
Tim Ellis's Profile Description
Tim is a highly motivated researcher with nine years of multiplatform support, research and development experience. An expert in the fields of Bluetooth, SMS and various other technologies he continues to develop cutting edge applications, services and websites for Ultralab.
I came to be at Ultralab through the Every Object Tells a Story project carrying out technical research and implementation work, bringing with me experience in system administration, research and development in mixed mode environments from the NHS and other organisations I have worked with. In my experience before Ultralab I have carried out work for Apple, Microsoft, The Source, HP, Tiny, AMD and many others. My primary responsibility is to undertake technical research for Ultralab, its partners and clients leading to a software product. During my time at Ultralab I have been involved in many research projects including Jelly OS, Every Object Tells a Story, Mobile Games Based Learning, and a project of my own making, UltraSMS. I represented Ultralab at the Worldwide Developer Conference and Oracle OpenWorld in San Francisco last year taking the Ultralab philosophy to these conferences and returning with extra insight into technical development and research. Currently I am working on several projects, including the Large Scale Implementation of Innovative Technologies JISC project. In this project I am applying my expertise in the field of mobile technologies to create an SMS/MMS groupcasting system with a pluggable authentication module system that will integrate with the various VLEs and other environments used in the sector. I am also currently participating in Mobile Games Based Learning, planning for and conducting research group sessions and consulting with European partners to help guide the overall direction of the project. I have considerable experience designing, deploying and maintaining servers in mixed mode environments and as such play a role in maintaining the Ultralab infrastructure. I am adept at managing Windows, Netware, Linux, UNIX and OS X platforms in high availability environments where service levels are critical and apply this in Ultralab projects.
