Report OL147 New perspectives in Modern Language Learning
This volume has been planned as a follow-up to a report written for the Learning Methods Branch of the Employment Department in 1990, entitled " Educational Technology in Modern Language Learning". It was decided to provide more than an update on the first report, with details of new hardware and courseware, although these areas are covered in this volume. In addition, the writers of this report have tried to identify and discuss what seemed to be interesting issues in language learning, Information technology and humanistic approaches to education. The authors write from a University base, but have tried to address issues of importance to learners and teachers of language in a variety of situations, and to have supplied information on important areas of research and development.
The report is a joint one with chapters written by individuals, but then submitted for collective scrutiny. Coverage includes traditional CALL, Communications, multimedia, Information Technology & the theories of language learning, Intelligent computer assisted learning, and taking a humanistic approach to language learning.
